Flying your Pet

Flying your pet: here Carlo is being picked up by his owner in Maryland. This page can be a lot to digest for some new customers out of state, please take your time and read through it several times. Don't hesitate to contact me with questions!

Flying your pet in this day and age is not difficult, yet I keep in close contact with my customers to assure the pet/s is picked up within several hours of landing! Otherwise I will fly the pet back to me!

NOTE: customers in warmer states need to know that "some" airlines cut off flying animals when the temps reach over 85 degrees coming into the summer months. If you are from a warmer state planning to fly a pup, consider the cooler months. If not, Continental Airlines can fly pups to warmer states! Or, you can fly to MN and take your pup as carry-on at 8 weeks of age. It's air conditioned and great bonding!

Below is Hilo with his owner at Embassy Suites by the Minneapolis St. Paul (MSP) airport. I will bring you your pup and then give you a ride to the airport assuring all goes well for your flight back.

With Minnesota winters, pups are not allowed to fly at 10 degrees or lower on Northwest Airlines (others may be temperature controlled such as Continental Airlines), so there are windows of temperature flying that customers should be aware of with each carrier. We work closely on this when the time comes.

Embassy Suites 1-800-embassy is the hotel that I recommend fly in customers who want to stay over night. I can then take you to the airport the next morning with your carry on pup.

1. All flights are arranged and paid for by the new owner. I provide information here to help you do so to help you along the way. This gives the customer knowledge to what their pup must go through to fly as well as surety in knowing what airline choice is made and their rules.

  • When pups are born, I will email the "8 weeks" later flying your pet date for customers to know the day I will travel with the pups to fly them out. This is going to be DURING the week so plan accordingly. Airlines do not "generally" fly weekends as easily as during the week.
  • "Generally" I use NorthWest Airlines as they do their best to provide direct flight service. 1-888-692-4738 is their Pet cargo portal service number. Continental Airlines is my choice during the summer.
  • You "generally" need to contact airlines10 days prior to known ship date and set up the flying data at which you pay for upon the pets arrival to you. I will be emailing 2 weeks prior to the date to remind you. Yet, please mark your calendar way ahead of time when you know they should be flying out.
  • Crate size at 8 weeks of age is series 100 (D17 x L26 x H18 inches). As they age, they grow rapidly and crate size then grows with their weight, be aware the cost rises more to fly with size.
  • You, the customer, then inform me of flight plans, I call airlines to validate the given data, and then I must arrive several hours ahead of time for the airlines.
  • MSP (Minneapolis, St. Paul airport) is where I fly the pups out of, so when they ask, you need to provide "MSP airport" is the --shipping from-- location.
  • It is a 3 hour drive for me so I ask everyone to coordinate dates with me that I may fly many at the same time. I will provide the initial date. If I have to ship your pup at a seperate date than the others for your convenience, there will be a mileage charge of $100 . If a pup will need it's next vaccination during that time, it will be an additional expense please.
  • In evaluating the best time to fly the pups; I have found now that EARLY mornings work in shipping them all out. Why? There is a pet/animal ban on flying Northwest if temperatures are above 85 degrees. The temperature to warm states does not rise until afternoon. In shipping them at the earliest day-time hours, we beat the heat :-) Don't worry about me having to get the pups to the cargo area at 5am to catch your 7am flight out--NO PROBLEM. I will do what needs to be done for the health of the pup and to get your new family member to you without as much stress as possible. This is when the cargo area opens in the morning (5am) and the pups must be there 2 hours prior to flying out. It seems to work great for me as the pups sleep the early morning hours away as we drive :-)
  • I use a dog's mother pheramone spray (fragrance of the nursing mother) just before they leave to help relax them as I don't believe in drugging them. Customers say they arrive just great at their end.
  • It is a new age in the pet flying world today, feel comfortable in knowing that your pup is being taken care of on the trip.
  • 2. In the USA; an out state buyer from Minnesota in deciding to move forward with a purchase and flying their pet, must keep in good communication that we can know what is to happen and when. I pay the $40 to purchase the flying health certificate needed to be done within 10 days of your pet flying.

    3. NorthWest Airlines is the flyer of preference for your pet as they do their best to find a direct flight to a major airport in your area. You may choose any carrier you desire though.

    4. Overseas buyers; please thoroughly research who your transporter will be in understanding their requirements, notifying me then that I will know what is needed in shipping your pet. Example: How old must the pet be to fly to your country?

    5. Note: NW airlines allows pets 10#s and under to fly with the owner in flight. Other airlines share 15#'s.

  • Our large Royals range "generally" at 8 weeks of age 10-15#'s.

  • Airlines will only fly pets/pups at 8 weeks of age. If you are considering flying "with" your new pup, check with me on pups weight!

Northwest Airlines Generally a straight flight.

Continental Airlines Generally a stop before final destination, yet all Continental Airlines facilities are climate controlled for pets!

    United Airlines

    American Airlines
